Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Materials Buyer to join our procurement team in Milwaukee, WI. The Materials Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory of materials and supplies required for production. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality materials at competitive prices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source, select, and negotiate with suppliers to purchase raw materials, parts, and supplies for production needs
- Review and analyze purchase requisitions, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Place and manage purchase orders, tracking shipments to ensure on-time delivery
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust purchasing strategies to avoid shortages or excess stock
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors to secure the best terms and conditions
- Evaluate supplier performance in terms of quality, delivery, and pricing, and address any issues as needed
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to align material requirements with production schedules
- Work with finance to resolve invoice discrepancies and ensure timely payments
- Continuously seek cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
- Stay updated on market trends, material availability, and pricing changes that may impact procurement decisions
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred (equivalent experience may be considered)
- 3+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management (experience in manufacturing is a plus)
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to analyze data and make informed purchasing decisions
- Knowledge of material costing, logistics, and vendor management
- Problem-solving abilities and flexibility in a fast-paced environment
